Lighting for the Chevy Silverado

LED headlights, taillights, fog lights, and light bars — brighter, longer-lasting upgrades that modernize older Silverados and light up the trail.

1 part

Lighting is the single most-searched Silverado upgrade, and for good reason: the factory halogen headlamps on GMT800 (1999–2006) and even GMT900 (2007–2013) trucks look dim and yellow next to anything modern, and they're cheap to fix. But "just drop in LEDs" is exactly where people get burned. The right part depends entirely on your generation and trim — some trucks take a simple bulb swap, while higher trims and 2019-plus T1XX trucks left the factory with sealed HID or LED housings that have no replaceable bulb at all.

Get the fitment right first — our bulb-size chart lists every position by generation — then decide between a bulb swap and a full housing or assembly. Beyond the headlights, fog lights, tail lights, and a bed or ditch light are the easy wins. For factory-look replacements and OEM assemblies on the trims that never took a bulb, eBay Motors is usually the better hunting ground than new aftermarket.

Lighting FAQ

What headlight bulb does my Silverado use?
It depends on generation and trim — broadly 9006/9005 on 1999–2006 trucks, H11/9005 on many 2007–2018 halogen trucks, and no replaceable bulb at all on factory HID/LED trims. Check the bulb-size fitment guide and confirm against your exact trim.
Can I put LED bulbs in my Silverado's factory headlights?
Often yes on halogen-equipped trims, using a properly-sized LED conversion kit — but factory HID and LED housings have no bulb to swap and need a whole assembly. Fitment depends on your trim, not just the year.
Why do my older Silverado's headlights look so dim and yellow?
Aged halogen bulbs plus hazed, UV-clouded lenses. A fresh bulb (or an LED conversion where it fits) and a lens restoration — or a new OEM-style assembly — brings the output back. See the LED headlight guide.
