Silverado Generations & Fitment Guide: GMT800, GMT900, K2XX & T1XX by Year

There is no such thing as “a Silverado part.” A 2001 work truck and a 2024 High Country share a name and almost nothing else that bolts on. Before you buy brakes, a lift, headlights, or a floor liner, you need to know which of the four full-size generations you’re wrenching on — and this guide sorts that out in plain English so you order right the first time.

The four full-size Silverado generations at a glance

Two things trip people up. First, the 2007 overlap: Chevy sold the outgoing GMT800 (badged Classic) alongside the redesigned GMT900 (New Body Style) for the entire 2007 model year. Second, the HD trucks run on their own clock — the heavy-duty 2500/3500 usually switches to a new body a year after the 1500, so a 2014 is a K2XX 1500 but the HD didn’t change until 2015. GMT800 (1999–2007): the workhorse

The truck that defined the modern Silverado. Simple, tough, and everywhere — which makes both new aftermarket and used OEM parts cheap and plentiful. Common engines were the 4.3L V6 and the LS-family 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L V8s. GMT900 (2007–2013): the refinement

The New Body Style cleaned up the aero, interior, and ride while keeping the proven LS drivetrain (the 5.3L and 6.0L are the volume engines, with the 4.8L on base trucks). Fitment is distinct from GMT800 — grilles, headlights, and interior panels do not swap between the two despite the overlap year. K2XX (2014–2018/2019): the modern truck

The K2 platform brought the EcoTec3 engines (4.3L V6, 5.3L and 6.2L V8), a stiffer frame, and a far more refined cab. This is where fitment gets strict: interior trim, floor liners, and console parts are cut specifically for the 2014–2018 dash. Accessories designed for this generation — like a center-console organizer or drawer — are shaped to the K2XX interior and won’t fit the truck before or after it.

T1XX (2019–present): the current generation

The current Silverado rides on the T1XX platform with a bigger cab, the 2.7L Turbo four, the 3.0L Duramax diesel, and the familiar 5.3L/6.2L V8s. It is the highest-volume generation for new accessories right now — floor liners, exterior protection, and towing gear are all made in T1XX-specific fitments. If your truck is a 2019 or newer, filter every part to “2019–present” (and confirm 1500 vs. HD, since the HD didn’t redesign until 2020).
