Brakes for the Chevy Silverado

The Silverado's brakes are sized to the truck. A 1500 on 13-inch front rotors is a different animal from a 2500HD or 3500HD running the bigger, heavier-duty hardware, so the first fitment question is always half-ton versus three-quarter/one-ton, and only then the year. Pad compound matters more than most owners think: ceramic runs quiet and clean for daily driving, while semi-metallic and severe-duty compounds handle the heat of towing and long grade descents, where fade — not raw stopping power — is the real enemy.

Watch for the usual GM tells. A pulsing pedal under braking is almost always warped or unevenly-deposited front rotors, and a soft pedal on a high-mileage truck often traces to a tired brake hose or a sticking caliper slide rather than the pads themselves. Match rotor and pad as a set, bed them in properly, and a Silverado brake job lasts.
